Today nothing directly Hobby related, but as part of my workflow optimization experiments, I recently tested the Canon R6 Mark II’s wireless transfer capabilities over WiFi 6. My goal was to measure and compare transfer speeds using FTP and SFTP protocols, particularly looking at how secure transfers (SFTP) might impact performance.
The Setup
- Camera: Canon R6 Mark II
- Storage: Sandisk Extreme Go 512GB SSD card
- Connection: WiFi 6 to a 1Gbps home network backbone
- FTP Server Specs:
- 32GB RAM
- 12-Core CPU
- Wired Gigabit connection
- Linux Operating System
- 1Gbps Network speed
- File Transfered:
- 15 images
- 3 video files
- Total transfer size: ~1.8 GB
Both image and video files were transferred directly from the camera to the server, with no noticeable delay or difference in handling between file types.
